KARACHI: The State Bank has announced a holiday for public and private banks across the country on the first of Ramadan.

According to the State Bank’s announcement, banks across the country will remain closed for public transactions on the first of Ramadan, 1447 Hijri, due to the deduction of Zakat.

The announcement states that there will also be no public transactions in development financial institutions and microfinance banks.

However, bank employees will be present in offices as usual on the bank holiday, while those conducting public transactions will have a day off.

It should be noted that the central meeting of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee to sight the moon of Ramadan will be held in Peshawar tomorrow, Wednesday, while zonal committees will hold meetings in other areas of the country.
