ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has appointed Captain (retd) Muhammad Mahmood as Chairman, the company informed the head office on Monday.
“We wish to inform you that Mr. Hassan Nasir Jamy, Chairman, has stepped down as Chairman of the Company with effect from April 1, 2024, and Captain Muhammad Mahmood (R) has been appointed as Chairman,”
PTCL’s new chairman is currently also holding the post of Additional Secretary (in-charge) of the Ministry of IT and Telecom.

This comes a week after the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) said PTCL’s pre-merger application to acquire Telenor Pakistan is still under review.
CCP had earlier requested more information on March 20, 2024, to complete its due diligence. The required information from PTCL’s lawyers is still awaited.

The Commission has 30 working days after all required information is submitted. The 30-working-day time frame for the first-stage review will begin after PTCL’s lawyers submit the outstanding information sought by the commission.
It may be mentioned that the Integration Department of CCP is currently processing 21 applications. PTCL’s acquisition of Telenor is one such application.
Earlier, the federal government was transferred Hassan Nasir Jamy, the Federal Secretary of Information Technology and Telecommunications.
In his place, Capt. (Retd) Muhammad Mehmood was appointed as Additional (Incharge) of the IT and Telecommunication Division.
