CDA directed to finalize design for Islamabad’s first International Cricket Stadium

CDA directed to finalize design for Islamabad’s first International Cricket Stadium

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad cricket stadium project has taken a further step ahead as the Interior Minister has ordered the Capital Development Authority, CDA, to hasten the finalisation of designs for the new world-class cricket stadium.

It has been stated by sources that the CDA is directed to employ a professional consultant to finalize the design of the stadium. An advertisement regarding consulting services has been published, which marks the beginning of the design work.

The proposed site for the stadium lies in the vicinity of Sector D-12, which is near the Margalla Hills. The chosen site is thought to be apt for the construction of a sports stadium for national and international matches of cricket.

According to sources, the Interior Ministry wants the project to be accomplished within one year after the design is finalized. This comes after several years of talks and planning, considering the fact that Islamabad never had an international cricket stadium like other big cities in the country.

Once the stadium has been built, it will help improve the sporting infrastructure base within the capital and will serve as a venue for hosting high-profile cricketing matches.
