CM Maryam announces Lahore first ever water surface plant

LAHORE: The first project of a surface water treatment plant in the provincial capital has been approved under the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

The surface water treatment plant will be installed on the BRB Canal in Lahore and was approved in the 52nd PDWP meeting. The project is to be completed with the cooperation of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and will make 54 million gallons of surface water per day usable.

This project will benefit the populations of Mughalpura, Baghbanpura, Fategarh, and Shadipura, in addition to over 1.7 million residents of Lahore.

The water treatment project, meant to be finished by 2031, will be installed on 120 acres of land, with additional electricity generated through a 5-megawatt solar energy system.

Housing Secretary Noorul Amin Mengal said that, on the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, important projects were being started, and the project would be brought before the ECNEC for approval. Across the province, serious work is underway to convert contaminated water into usable water.
