LAHORE: The government of Punjab has decided to fully digitalize the housing societies in the province and to remove unnecessary hurdles in getting the No Objection certificates (NOC) for registration.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz chaired a high-level meeting in which several key decisions were made while discussing a mechanism for regularizing illegal housing societies across the province.
A portal “Housing Society Management System” shall be introduced for the online approval, management, transfer of properties payment of NOC fees.
Development and management of societies will also be possible through the digital system, and a high-level committee shall oversee the entire regularization process.
CM Maryam emphasized that poor people are frequently tricked and refused plots after payment. She also mentioned that government departments have contributed to the proliferation of unlawful housing societies.
She stressed the need to resolve the status of current schemes per the law and provide individuals with relief through a one-time amnesty that complies with laws.
The provincial administration is also considering a plan to implement an amnesty program for housing schemes in Punjab.
The chief minister was briefed on the existence of 7905 housing societies across 20 lakh canals of land in the province.
She was also informed that 5118 housing societies are unlawful or that their cases are still pending, while 2687 housing societies have received clearance as of right now.
She was briefed that while 427 of the 707 housing societies had LDA clearance, 206 were unlawful, and 74 schemes are still being investigated.
