CM Punjab announces massive relief for expired driving license holders: Details inside

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced a big relief for the expired license holders. Enhanced penalties for driving licenses expiring before January 16, 2024 have been abolished.

Citizens whose driving license expires before January 16, 2024, can renew it with the old penalty. The new fee rates will apply for licenses expiring on or after January 16, 2024.

Earlier, the penalty for expired license ranged from Rs 75 to Rs 500 per annum. Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Amara Athar said that the fee for renewing the learner’s permit will remain at Rs 500.

She added that citizens can renew international and regular licenses at home as well as at license offices. Athar emphasized that there will be no relaxation in the crackdown against underage and unlicensed drivers.

On the other hand, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced to launch a comprehensive investigation into the fake international driving license scandal. The inquiry will be conducted by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the provincial committee.

The scam came to light when Pakistani missions abroad tried to verify driving licenses issued by the KP Transport Department to foreign Pakistanis, only to find that the department’s database No records available.
