LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab (CM) Maryam Nawaz on Monday constituted a committee to investigate the alleged murder of 20-year-old pregnant woman Sania Zahra, who was found dead inside her house in Multan on May 9.
As per the details, Sania Zehra’s death was earlier ruled as suicide and cremated. However, later Sania Zahra’s father Asad Abbas accused her husband Ali Raza and in-laws of her murder.
The Punjab Home Department has issued a notification for the formation of a committee consisting of RPO Bahawalpur, Additional Secretary Home, Deputy Prosecutor and CPO Sadiq Dogar. The committee will review the investigation on a day-to-day basis to ensure justice is delivered.
Initially, Sania Zehra was cremated, but on her father’s request, the body was exhumed for forensic examination.
According to the preliminary findings of the report, the woman died due to hanging and no signs of violence or torture were found on her body. The forensic report also revealed that none of her bones were fractured.
Sania Zehra’s family refused to accept the initial results and demanded justice.
Syed Asad Abbas Shah, the father of the victim, said that his daughter did not commit suicide, but was tortured and killed. He expressed disbelief on the police and accused them of trying to label the incident as a suicide since day one.
