Deadly floods in Buner claim 78 lives as rescue operations continue

BUNER: The death toll due to torrential rains and flash floods in Buner district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has risen to 78, according to Deputy Commissioner Kashif Qayyum.

He said that the powerful floodwaters caused by the storms led to several accidents, in which dozens of lives were lost.

Rescue teams have so far recovered 56 bodies, while the condition of more victims is feared to be critical. The official added that the worst damage was in the mountainous areas, where helicopters are being used to evacuate stranded residents.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar said that Tehsils Dagar, Gadizai and Gagra were the worst-hit areas, adding that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government helicopters were active in the relief operations.
