ISLAMABAD: The federal government has stepped up to combat climate issues by initiating the e-bike scheme 2025 in Pakistan. The scheme is scheduled to be inaugurated formally by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on August 14 during the Independence Day celebrations.
The scheme showcases the government’s desire for a sustainable future and minimal use of fuel-based travel.
Under the program, the government has set aside Rs9 billion in the current budget to subsidize the use of electric bikes.
Each electric bike will be subsidized to the tune of Rs 65,000, making electric bikes more affordable for the common public.
The rest of the cost will be funded through interest-free bank loans, reducing the financial burden on citizens.
To promote accessibility and transparency, registration for the electric bike scheme will be done online. If the number of applicants is more than the available number, a balloting scheme shall be adopted to identify the beneficiaries.
The government wants at least 2 million electric bikes on the roads by 2030. And the overall vision is to deploy 53,950 electric rickshaws, 99,155 electric cars, 2,238 electric buses, and 2,996 electric trucks.
