PESHAWAR: Earthquake tremors were felt in various districts of Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday night, causing panic among the people. The earthquake was felt in Bajaur, Khyber, Mohmand and Malakand areas.
According to the Seismological Center, the intensity of the earthquake was recorded as 4.9 on the Richter scale, while its depth was 10 kilometers. The epicenter of the earthquake is said to be underground near the border areas of Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The tremors were so severe that people in houses and shops came out reciting the Kalima Tayyaba, but no reports of any loss of life or property have been received so far.
According to Rescue 1122 and the district administration, all institutions are on alert and teams have been dispatched to assess the possible damage. Local hospitals have also been alerted in view of the emergency situation.
The Meteorological Department and the Seismological Center are appealing to citizens to avoid rumors and take precautions in view of possible aftershocks after the earthquake.
