KARACHI: To control cattle markets, which will operate during Eid-ul-Azha 2026, the Karachi city administration has established an extensive set of rules.
According to the new policy, all operators must obtain mandatory permits from the Commissioner’s Office to set up a market (mandi). The decision emerged from a high-level assembly which Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi convened.
The session included senior officials from the police, traffic authorities, and municipal bodies to ensure a coordinated approach to city management.
The regulations prohibit any cattle market from commencing operations until officials provide their necessary permissions. The administration will issue permits only after consulting with police and traffic authorities. The measure guarantees that every location holds sufficient security resources, together with complete parking arrangements and traffic control systems.
The administration declared that all markets that operate without proper permits will be deemed unlawful. The authorities will implement immediate legal proceedings against all offenders through their established procedures.
The Commissioner assigned all Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and law enforcement agencies with the responsibility to conduct continuous surveillance throughout the city.
The primary mission of the enforcement team involves stopping illegal street-side markets, which result in traffic congestion. The meeting discussed two issues that needed immediate action at each authorized location.
The proposed improvements will provide better lighting and continuous security monitoring, together with higher cleanliness standards, which will benefit both traders and citizens.
The administration intends to establish centralized control over all operations despite the existing Northern Bypass cattle market, which has already started its operations as a key transportation hub.
