LAHORE: Work on Lahore’s first floating restaurant is in its final stages, and the facility is expected to be open to the public later this year, officials say.

The three-storey structure is being constructed on a canal that branches off the River Ravi, near Jallo Park. Construction and civil works are advancing swiftly according to the project managers, who target completing the facility before the end of the year, subject to final safety checks and inspections.

It has been designed to host over 200 guests at a time and gives quite a new waterfront dining experience to Lahoris. Officials say the goal is to provide a family-friendly location where people can eat and have scenic views of the canal.

The multi-tiered design will offer open-air seating areas alongside indoor seating so that visitors can enjoy the surroundings as they dine. Deepening and reinforcement of the canal is going on to support the floating structure.

The sand and silt are being removed from the bed of the canal for adequate depth and stability of the restaurant after full installation.
