Fake video of Maryam Nawaz statue sparks online rumors

LAHORE: An alleged video is being shared in several online posts, in which a giant statue of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif can be seen under construction in Lahore, with some social media accounts even giving the impression that such a statue is indeed being built.

This claim is false. The video clip was actually created with the help of artificial intelligence (AI) tools.

On November 25, a user shared an 8-second video on X (formerly Twitter), in which a towering statue of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif is seen at a busy intersection. The user captioned the video in Urdu: “The masterpiece statue of the Chief Minister of Punjab is in the final stages of completion.”

The video circulating online was created using publicly available artificial intelligence (AI) tools and does not show an actual statue of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif under construction.

According to private media, an artificial intelligence (AI)-based content verification tool, to verify the authenticity of this clip. Hive Moderation gave the video an overall score of 99.9 percent, indicating that the clip was created with AI or contains deep fake content.
