PESHAWAR: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Peshawar on Thursday arrested six Afghan nationals in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over their alleged involvement in forging Pakistani identity cards.
According to the FIA Spokesperson, one was arrested at the Torkham border, while five others were apprehended from a hostel in Peshawar.
The statement said Najibullah, an Afghan citizen was arrested at the Torkham border, with a Pakistani Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) and an Afghan identity card, called Afghan Tazkira.
The suspect entered Pakistan via the Pak-Afghan border located in Balochistan’s Chaman district. He then acquired a Pakistani CNIC and passport through a cleric in Quetta, the initial investigation revealed.
Moreover, authorities used the information provided by Najibullah to apprehend five other Afghan nationals from Peshawar’s Usmania Hostel. FIA recovered various Pakistani CNICs and passports, as well as Afghan Tazkiras from the suspects, the statement added.
Preliminary investigation suggested that the detained suspects had planned to go to Saudi Arabia via Kabul by using forged Pakistani documents. Authorities are conducting raids to arrest the agent aiding the forgery.
Any possible involvement of the employees of Nadra and the passport offices would be determined during the investigation, the FIA stated.
