LAHORE: The Punjab Finance Department has notified through a circular dated January 2, 2026, the launch of a Special Pay Package for the second-level health workers.
The new measure done away with the previous promotion of the posts of medical staff in the district and tehsil headquarters hospitals of Punjab, which was a long-standing situation.
The reshuffle of 2,100 posts, consisting of, among others, Principal Medical Officers and Additional Principal Medical Officers, into Special Pay Package posts finds its basis in the Punjab Primary and Secondary Healthcare Services (Secondary Level Human Resource) Regulations, 2025, and the Provincial Cabinet, which had already given a nod to it in December 2025.
The Government of Punjab is looking to the exemptions from normal HR practices as the main avenue to give better salaries, and the money to be given would be a lump sum given to the employee as the hospitals in Lahore, Multan, Bhakkar, Chakwal, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala amongst others will also be witnessing this change.
The government is sure that through these reforms, efficiency in healthcare delivery will be increased, as well as medical staff motivation, since the new framework offers pay incentives.
