Govt abolishes provision for family appointments of deceased employees

KP lifts hiring & transfer ban for govt employees

ISLAMABAD: The federal government of Pakistan has officially abolished the provision under which a family member of a deceased government employee was allowed to be appointed to a government job during their service.

The Establishment Division has issued instructions to all ministries and divisions to implement the Supreme Court’s decision.

According to a statement issued by the Establishment Division, this provision was repealed following the Supreme Court’s decision on October 18, 2024. The decision will come into effect from the date of the Supreme Court’s decision. However, the kin of employees who die while in service will continue to receive other benefits under the Prime Minister’s relief package.

The memorandum further clarified that the decision will not apply to the families of law enforcement officials who lose their lives in terrorist incidents. Moreover, appointments made before the Supreme Court’s decision will not be affected by the new policy.

The government has directed all ministries and divisions to ensure strict implementation of the decision.
