ISLAMABAD: The federal government of Pakistan has allocated a total of Rs. 42.7 billion for the Green Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system in Karachi under the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) 2025-26.

According to official documents, the project is divided into two major components:

Rs. 29.19 billion has been allocated for the continued development of the Green Line BRT project, which was originally approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) in 2017.

An additional Rs. 13.50 billion has been allocated for the operational phase of the Green Line BRT, which was approved by the ECNEC in 2020.

The Green Line BRT is a key component of Karachi’s mass transit strategy and provides a reliable, efficient and affordable public transport solution for the city’s growing population.

Once fully operational and integrated with other transport lines, BRT is expected to significantly reduce travel times, ease traffic congestion, and reduce carbon emissions.
