PESHAWAR: A special committee of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has proposed to extend the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service to Khyber and Warsak roads.
The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Excise Minister Khaliq-ur-Rehman and Peshawar Division Commissioner Riaz Khan Mehsud, aimed at addressing the worsening traffic problems in the provincial capital.
The committee also recommended extending the BRT service from Ring Road to Kohat Road via GT Road. Once approved by the provincial government, these extensions are expected to reduce traffic congestion on these important routes and ease pressure on nearby roads.
If implemented, the proposed extension could play a significant role in improving Peshawar’s traffic flow and enhancing urban mobility for residents.
The KP Transport Department recently announced to digitize its driving license issuance system to make the process more efficient and eliminate inefficiencies. As part of this initiative, a mobile application called “Dastak” will enable individuals to apply for driving licenses online, eliminating the need for intermediaries and resolving issues like fake licenses and fake medical certifications.
Special arrangements will be made to provide concessions to overseas Pakistanis. The effort is part of a larger project under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the KP Information Technology Board (KPITB) to modernize the department’s operations.
The digitization of the entire transport department is expected to be completed within 18 months, with the driving license system to become operational in just four months. Officials stressed that the move would enhance public service delivery and significantly increase the province’s revenue.
