Govt further cuts net metering power purchase rate

ISLAMABAD: The government has further reduced the purchase price of electricity exported from consumers under net metering. Another bad news has come to the fore for consumers generating electricity from solar systems across the country.

According to sources, the price of exported electricity units has been reduced by 66 paise per unit from Rs 27 to Rs 25.32 per unit. Nepra has also given formal approval to this decision.

Power companies have announced that from this month, consumer bills will be prepared according to the new tariff. Due to this reduction, the credit rate in the electricity bills of consumers using solar systems will also be reduced, which may cause them to face financial losses.

Initially, the government purchased electricity from consumers at the rate of Rs 27 per unit, but after the recent reduction, concerns have increased among solar consumers. Experts say that this decision will not only reduce the benefits of consumers but may also affect the promotion of solar energy.
