PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to provide solar systems for the people of the merged districts free of cost or on easy installments. Under this project, 120,000 deserving households will be provided with 2 kW solar systems. Which will include inverters and other necessary equipment.
According to sources, the cost of each solar system is expected to be between Rs 255,000 and Rs 300,000. While the total cost of the project will be Rs 13 billion. Which the government will bear.
The solar project will be implemented in Bajaur, Khyber, Kurram, Orakzai, Mohmand, North Waziristan and South Waziristan. This project will be completed under the financial model of Bank of Khyber.
Officials say that two options have been kept for the cost of the solar system. In the refundable case, the users will pay about Rs 8,300 in monthly installments in 36 months. While in the non-refundable case, no money will be collected from the deserving users.
The beneficiaries under the scheme will be selected by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government. The vendors will be selected by the Bank of Khyber, while technical assistance will be provided by PEDO.
According to officials, the aim of the project is to provide a permanent solution to the electricity problems in the merged districts and provide relief to the people through alternative sources of energy.
