RAWALPINDI: The third round of talks between Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and the government concluded without an agreement, as JI maintained its demands. The government’s delegation, including Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Information Minister Atta Tarar, and Amir Muqam, engaged in discussions with the JI delegation led by Liaquat Baloch.
Information Minister Atta Tarar mentioned that the discussions were positive and that another session would be held on Wednesday.
Moreover, JI leader Liaquat Baloch stated that the meeting, which lasted over an hour, reaffirmed that JI would not compromise on its demands. “We want relief for the people,” he said, adding that their demands aim to benefit the public, not for personal gain.
The JI’s sit-in has reached its 13th day, highlighting public issues. Their demands include reducing petrol and electricity prices and reviewing Independent Power Producers (IPPs) agreements. The fourth round of talks is expected to take place on Wednesday.
Additionally, the JI presented 10 demands and sought Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s guarantee on the ongoing talks, emphasizing that any agreement must bear his signature.
