Govt unveils Riverine Forestation Project: Details inside

JAMSHORO: To help mitigate climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Pakistan, a large-scale riverine forest restoration project will be launched on 41,000 hectares in Jamshoro and Matiari districts of Sindh under a public-private partnership model.

The Sindh government has approved the Sindh Forest Department to issue letters of award to preferred bidders in three project packages.

According to officials, the initiative is likely to generate 35 to 40 million carbon credits, which will be traded in international carbon markets – earning valuable foreign exchange to Pakistan.

In addition, the board has approved the involvement of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to conduct a feasibility study for a new, expanded riverine forest project covering about 88,000 hectares in Sindh.
