IHC suspends PEMRA’s notification regarding defense analysts

Islamabad High Court announces summer holidays

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) has suspended PEMRA’s notification regarding the participation of defence analysts in TV programs on several conditions.

Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) notified that only retired military officers can appear on TV channels for defence analysis with the permission of ISPR, the military media wing.

IHC Justice Babar Sattar presided over the hearing and issued a written order in the case against PEMRA’s 2019 notification.

As per the order, the legal counsel for PEMRA failed to appear in the hearing and the assistant counsel requested adjournment due to senior counsel’s unwellness.

IHC ordered the suspension of the regulatory authority’s notification after completing the arguments on both sides.

The court ordered suspending the notification until the verdict was delivered and adjourned the hearing till February 11, 2025.
