ISLAMABAD: The District and Sessions Court of Islamabad has sentenced Advocate Iman Mazari and her husband Hadi Ali to a total of 17 years in prison in the controversial tweets case.
Additional Sessions Judge Afzal Majuka also issued a 22-page written order while delivering a summary judgment in the case. According to the court decision, both the accused were sentenced to 5 years in prison and a fine of Rs 50,50,000 under Section 9 of the PECA Act.
Similarly, under Section 10, Iman Mazari and Hadi Ali were sentenced to 10 years in prison and a fine of Rs 30,000,000, while under Section 26A, both were sentenced to 2 years in prison and a fine of Rs 10,000,000.
The court clarified that in total, both the accused have been sentenced to 17 years in prison and a fine of Rs 36,000,000. However, under Section 11 of the PECA Act, the court acquitted Iman Mazari and Hadi Ali.
After the verdict, the court ordered the two accused to be sent to jail on 14-day judicial remand.
Earlier, during the hearing, Iman Mazari had taken the stand that she would boycott the court proceedings, after which both the accused boycotted the court proceedings. The court had reserved the verdict after completing the case record and evidence, which was announced later.
