QUETTA: The effects of the ongoing war between Iran and Israel are now starting to be felt in Balochistan as petrol and other food items are imported from Iran.

The border areas of Balochistan adjacent to Iran were long considered to be an important center for smuggling Iranian petrol.

However, due to the closure of Pak-Iran border crossing points due to the ongoing war between Iran and Israel, this entire business has come to a standstill.

Iranian petrol has become scarce across the province, and even hundreds of mini petrol pumps located in the streets of Quetta have been closed, as a result of which rickshaw drivers and other transport owners have significantly increased their fares.

On the other hand, there is also a risk that LPG gas is about to run out, due to which its prices are also going to increase.

Due to the severe shortage of Iranian goods in the markets of Quetta, their prices have doubled. Before the Iran-Israel war, the sale of Iranian food items was common in Quetta.

Iranian cooking oil, ghee, biscuits, dry fruits, blankets, yogurt, lassi, and other items were easily available in the markets and shops of different areas of the city.

However, now the closure of the Pak-Iran border has not only led to a shortage of these items, but also a significant increase in prices is being seen.

Citizens say that the federal and provincial governments will have to take immediate, effective and comprehensive measures to ensure the availability of goods and control inflation.
