ISLAMABAD: There are 13 routes of electric bus service in Islamabad and it is hoped that all the buses will be brought on the roads soon.
Earlier this month, the administration had directed the concerned department of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to deploy all 160 electric buses on the routes and introduce new buses for the benefit of the citizens.
Around 70 buses are running. It is still uncertain how many buses will actually come on the roads. The CDA has 16 charging stations, which according to reports are insufficient to meet the needs of the entire fleet.
In response to this problem, a new depot is being built at Zero Point, where additional charging facilities will be set up.
Environmentalist Munir Ahmed said electric buses would not only reduce greenhouse gas emissions but also contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment. “We have been advocating for eco-friendly transportation solutions for years, and it is heartening to see the government taking concrete steps in this direction,” he said.
