ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) Board approved the purchase of two tree transplanters for relocating trees, affected during the infrastructure projects.

In a meeting on Thursday, Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa instructed to complete the working process for purchasing tree transplanters.

The tree transplanted will be used to relocate the trees to alternative locations in an effort to address the loss of flora and fauna during any road or other infrastructure project in the federal capital.

On Friday, the Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar informed the Senate that the civic agency has started a new mechanism for the transfer of plants/trees during any road expansion project.

Replying to various supplementary questions during Question Hour, the minister said CDA has the mandate of development which includes landscape development and planting as well.

Large green belts have been provided in the Master plan of the city, he added.

CDA carried out the plantation twice during the year, he said, adding that these plantations were further protected from illicit cutting through stringent legislation like the Landscape Act, 1967, and the Forest Act, 1927.

Apart from that, the CDA board in its latest meeting approved the construction of a parking plaza on the plot adjacent to Centaurus Mall in the Blue Area and one in I-8 Markaz.

Chairman CDA stated that commercial shops would also be constructed in the parking plaza.
