ISLAMABAD: Consumers under the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) will now face significantly higher meter installation charges.
Under the revised prices, the price of a single-phase meter has increased from Rs. 11,000 to Rs. 35,000 while a three-phase meter will now be installed at Rs. 85,000. The updated rates have been implemented in Rawalpindi, Cantonment and Taxila areas with immediate effect.
Meanwhile, in a major development regarding the privatization of three major electricity distribution companies IESCO, Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) and Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO), strict restrictions have been imposed on new recruitments, promotions and employee benefits.
These companies now need approval from the Privatization Commission before taking any such decision.
According to a private news channel, these power firms will have to take prior approval before signing contracts. The authorities have also directed them to maintain up-to-date records and financial statements.
A financial advisor has already been appointed to oversee the privatization process, while a dedicated committee has been formed to facilitate the transfer.
