PhD student allegedly dies due to QAU Islamabad administration’s negligence

Quaid-e-Azam University announce summer vacation schedule

ISLAMABAD: An unfortunate incident occurred at Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU) Islamabad on April 16 uncovering the alleged negligence of the university administration in providing basic health facilities to students and teachers.

On Tuesday, a female PhD student Rashida Nazir allegedly passed away after having a heart attack during a seminar in the country’s top-ranked university. The incident was exaggerated when the QAU administration failed to arrange an ambulance even for 30 minutes after she felt a cardiac attack.

Eyewitnesses told Daily Ausaf that the student’s condition worsened as she waited for the ambulance for half an hour. Meantime, fellow students called Rescue officials for help. According to the details, PhD fellow Rashida was later brought to the university’s medical center where medical staff were also absent.

Whereas, the Qauid-e-Azam University administration has kept silent on the incident. Daily Ausaf reached the university officials for further clarity on the matter but they have not responded yet.

University students condemned the actions and demanded an investigation and justice into the matter. Progressive Students’ Federation (PrSF) Islamabad condemned the incident and demanded much-needed medical and other basic facilities in the university.

In a statement, the PrSF Islamabad Rawalpindi chapter said that the university lacked medical facilities and specialist staff which became a direct factor leading to the student’s death.

“It is the university administration’s negligence due to which these facilities were unavailable. This highlights how the university misallocates funds, the funds which are to be used for providing the students with much-needed facilities are instead used up by the administration elsewhere,” the student organization said.
