ISLAMABAD: Accountability Court Judge Nasir Javaid Rana, who sentenced former Prime Minister Imran Khan in a £190 million case, has been transferred.

Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Amir Farooq ordered the transfer, and the Islamabad High Court Registrar issued a notification.

Judge Rana, who heard the case against Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi, has been posted as District and Sessions Judge Islamabad West from the Accountability Court.

He sentenced Imran Khan to 14 years and Bushra Bibi to 7 years in prison on charges of corruption and misuse of authority. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 million on Khan and Rs 500,000 on Bibi.

Imran Khan’s sentence was pronounced on January 17 after several postponements. Judge Rana’s transfer came after the appointment of Justice Azam Khan to the Islamabad High Court, which left the post of District and Sessions Judge West vacant. Additional Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry was temporarily discharging the duties.
