KARACHI: For the first time in Karachi’s history, the ambulance lane is functioning, representing a serious step in increasing the speed of movement in cases of emergency.
A first dedicated route has been established on Mansfield Street in the bustling area of Saddar, where traffic normally remains packed.
According to South Deputy Commissioner Javed Nabi Khuso, the ambulance lane became possible after a clearance operation removed the long-standing encroachments. With the road freed, officials opened the first proper fast-track path meant only for emergency vehicles.
He said the main aim is to protect lives by ensuring ambulances do not get stuck in traffic during critical moments.
He further added that more such ambulance lanes in Karachi routes will be introduced on other important roads in the district soon. He said emergency access and public safety would continue to top their agenda over the next couple of weeks.
