Karachi weather: Port city witnesses heavy rainfall in several areas

KARACHI: The port city witnessed heavy rain in several areas, bringing much-needed relief to the citizens from the scorching heat.

Heavy rain is also falling in various areas, including Malir, Safoora, Model Colony, and Saadi Town, with Thunderstorms continuing in Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Defense, Scheme 33, and North Nazimabad.

While sporadic rains were reported in Malir, Airport, Model Colony, Korangi, Nazimabad, Surjani Town, and along the Super Highway, Karachi’s weather improved due to the late-night overflow.

The highest recorded rainfall was in Gulshan-e-Hadeed, where 17 millimetres of rain was measured.

Significant rainfall was also recorded in other places, including Shahra-e-Faisal (12 mm), the old city neighborhoods (9 mm), Defence Phase II (7.8 mm), Jinnah International Airport (5 mm), and University Road (2 mm).

It should be noted that rain has been predicted in Karachi from Friday to Sunday under the influence of the monsoon system.

According to meteorologist Anjum Nazir, there is a risk of urban flooding due to heavy rain on Saturday, while intermittent rain is likely to continue in the city on Sunday as well.

He further said that there is a low pressure in Gujarat, India. The low pressure will cause rain in Sindh in the coming days. Due to the rain, there is a risk of urban flooding in most cities of Sindh.
