Kite-Flying accidents claim one Life, injure five in Lahore

LAHORE: In various tragic incidents that took place on the occasion of Basant in Lahore, a young man died and five people were injured.

Accidents that occurred during kite flying in different areas of the city turned this festival of joy into sorrow.

According to rescue officials, 25-year-old Ali Rashid Kati climbed an electric pole near Sikh Canal in Baghbanpura area to release a kite. During this, he was suddenly electrocuted, due to which he died on the spot. The rescue team shifted the body after necessary action.

On the other hand, in Defense Phase Five, young Rafi was injured when the sharp string of the kite caught his neck, who was immediately shifted to the hospital for medical assistance. Similarly, incidents of string catching also took place in Gulshan-e-Ravi, where 8-year-old Arsa and 45-year-old Shabbir were injured.

According to rescue officials, 12-year-old Abdul Wahid was injured while flying a kite in Lower Mall area. He fell while running fast, which caused his injuries.

Another incident took place in Gulshan-e-Ravi where 14-year-old Salman was trying to fly a kite by climbing a tree when he lost his balance and fell and was injured.

All the injured were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals where they are being provided medical assistance.

Rescue officials say that due to kite flying on the occasion of Basant, there is an increase in such accidents every year, especially climbing on electric poles and using sharp wires, which increases the risk of loss of life.

Authorities have appealed to citizens to ensure their own and others’ safety and avoid flying kites in a dangerous manner or stealing cut kites so that more precious lives can be saved.
