Lahore man acquitted in case over offensive video targeting CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz

Lahore man acquitted in case over offensive video targeting CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz

LAHORE: A local court in Lahore has acquitted an elderly man, Sajid Nawaz, a popular internet sensation, who was arrested in a case of alleged derogatory remarks against the Punjab Chief Minister and other top officials.

The court, issuing a written order, directed that Sajid be acquitted from the case registered under FIR No. 2771 due to lack of evidence, as the authorities had accused him of making inappropriate comments against the top provincial leadership.

The court noted that the Lahore Police had failed to present any concrete evidence related to the incident. During the hearing, the police requested for the physical remand of the accused. However, the court rejected the request, saying that no concrete material was provided to justify continued detention during the investigation.

In its judgment, the court emphasized that Sajid’s arrest was not substantiated by facts and there was no legal basis left to keep him in detention. The judge added that other individuals initially named in the same case had already been acquitted, reinforcing the lack of merit in the prosecution’s claims.

The case was in the news after clips allegedly containing derogatory language against government officials surfaced online. Sajid was released from custody following the court’s ruling.
