LAHORE: The owner of a marquee in Lahore’s Johar Town booked for serving unhygienic food to nearly 350 guests at a wedding ceremony, deteriorating their health.
Punjab Food Authority has lodged a first information report after guests including women and children complained of nausea, vomiting, and severe stomach aches after eating the food at said venue on Tuesday night.
The FIR, lodged on the complaint of food safety officer Arif, alleged that unhygienic food was served to 360 guests at a marquee, owned by Sheikh Mohammad Javed.
According to the FIR, the teams were dispatched to the site to inspect the venue, food, and surroundings where it was cooked. After the inspection, the food department decided to nominate the owner of the marquee for violating the standards set for maintaining hygienic requirements.
Police said that the marquee was booked by Sarfraz, a Khayaban-i-Amin resident, for his wedding ceremony, and nearly 350 guests attended the reception.
Soon after getting the complaints, Rescue 1122 ambulances rushed to the site and shifted guests to the nearby hospitals.
Most were taken to private hospitals including Raiwind Indus Hospital while over 100 others were taken to Lahore General Hospital.
Police and food authorities have launched a joint inquiry to investigate the matter.
