LAHORE: Punjab Police have arrested the main suspect in a case related to the alleged gang-rape of a female student of a government university in Lahore.

The police said that the accused, Haseeb Afzal, has been arrested and raids are being conducted to apprehend the other two suspects, Talha and Hamza.

“The victim has undergone a medical examination, and the further investigation will be done after the report,” said a police spokesperson.

Police on Tuesday said that an MPhil student was raped in Lahore’s Muslim area. The victim registered the first information report (FIR) at the Women Police Station.

According to the FIR, one of the suspects Haseeb Afzal befriended the victim through social media and invited her to a place in Muslim Town on the pretext of marriage.

The accused took her to a private housing society for breakfast, where Haseeb along with his two friends subjected the student to sexual assault and filmed the incident, threatening to share the videos if she told anyone.

The FIR alleged that the suspects also took two cheques from the victim’s sister’s chequebook which she was carrying in her handbag.
