ISLAMABAD: The non-governmental organization Ruet-e-Hilal Research Council has made a prediction regarding the Shaban moon in Pakistan.
Secretary General of the Council, Khalid Ijaz Mufti, said that the moon will be born on the night between Sunday, 18, and Monday, 19 January 2026 at 12:52 am Pakistan time.
He said that the age of the moon at sunset on Monday, 19 January, will be less than 18 hours, while the age of the moon must be at least 19 hours for the sighting of the crescent.
He said that it is not possible to see the Shaban moon on Monday, 19 January, after which Shaban 1447 AH will begin on Wednesday,y 21 January.
According to the non-governmental organization, the difference between sunset and moonset will also not meet the required standard. In Gilgit and Muzaffarabad, this difference will be 29 minutes, in Peshawar, Islamabad, Lahore, and Charsadda, the difference will be 30 minutes, in Quetta, 31 minutes, while in Karachi and Jiwani, the difference will be 33 minutes.

A difference of at least 40 minutes between sunset and moonset is considered necessary for moon sighting. Thus, the moon is likely to be seen on January 20. The final announcement of moon sighting will be made by the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
