LHC grants permission for Aurat March on february 12

Aurat March Karachi postponed amid escalating tensions

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has given the green light for the Aurat March, scheduled to take place on February 12, after hearing petitions filed by activist Leena Ghani and others.

The decision came after the government’s attorney submitted a letter by the deputy commissioner of Lahore stating that security arrangements were in place for the march.

Justice Anwar Hussain, who presided over the hearing, directed authorities to ensure foolproof security for participants, which was a huge relief for the organizers and attendees.

In the beginning, there was a hiccup when the Deputy Commissioner of Lahore refused to permit the march in the first place, resulting in a contempt of court petition being filed against the DC.

However, it appears that the DC has granted permission for the march, which was almost a resolution to the crisis. It is also a huge relief for the organizers, as with this decision, the petition was disposed of, thereby giving a chance to the Aurat March to take place under security arrangements.

This is a great development because, over the years, the Aurat March has developed into an important yearly event where women’s rights have been advocated in Pakistan.
