Local government elections suspended in Quetta

GB election commission rejects objections in electoral dispute cases

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has suspended the local government elections in Quetta.

According to a notification issued by the Election Commission, the local government elections in Quetta have been suspended on a court order.

The local government elections to be held on December 28 have been postponed until further notice.

Earlier, the Federal Constitutional Court had suspended the local government elections to be held in Quetta on December 28, 2025.

The court issued notices to the Attorney General of Pakistan, Mansoor Usman Awan, the Election Commission, and others and sought a written response.

The court adjourned the hearing of the case until the third week of January, suspending the decision of the Balochistan High Court and the schedule of the local elections to be held in Quetta on December 28.

Meanwhile, Chief Justice of the Federal Constitutional Court Justice Aminuddin Khan remarked that if the elections are to be nullified tomorrow, what is the point of holding such elections?
