flooding in Jhelum

JHELUM: A man has been booked for allegedly spreading false news regarding the flooding in the Jhelum district due to a breach at the Mangla dam on Sunday.

According to the Jhelum Police, a suspect, Malik Nabeel, shared a video on TikTok, claiming that the embankment at Mangla Dam had collapsed, causing water to enter Jhelum city and nearby villages.

Authorities strongly denied these claims, confirming that there is no flood situation either at Mangla Dam or in the Jhelum River.

As per details, the first information report has been lodged on the complaint of Sub Inspector (SI) Jhelum Cantt Post, Mazhar Ali, under Section 26 of the Prevention of Electronic Crime Act (PECA) 2016 at City Police Station Jhelum.

The FIR, a copy of which is available with Daily Ausaf, stated that the video, published on “malik.nabeel0065 ID”, falsely claimed that villages have been destroyed due to a breach in the Mangla dam, sparking fear and panic among the local population.

Police further said that the police team immediately launched an investigation after the video went viral on social media and visited the area. They confirmed that the information was baseless.
