May 2026 to bring extended holiday breaks in Pakistan

UAE announces public holiday for 1st Muharram, 3-Day weekend ahead

ISLAMABAD: A total of 11 public holidays are expected in Pakistan during May 2026, with two separate consecutive holidays that will provide citizens with an opportunity for long holidays.

According to the details, the month will begin on May 1 with Labor Day, which is celebrated nationally in government and private institutions across the country. This year, the holiday is falling on a Friday, which is followed by a Saturday and Sunday, so citizens will get three consecutive days off.

The second major series of holidays is expected from May 26 to 29, however, its final date will depend on the official announcement of the Eid-ul-Adha moon. According to current predictions, Eid-ul-Adha is likely to fall on May 27 (Tuesday), while Youm-e-Takbir will be observed as a public holiday on May 28 (Thursday).

After this, the holiday on May 29 (Friday) can also make this break longer. If Monday, May 26 is also taken as a holiday, citizens can get the benefit of six consecutive long holidays. According to officials, the final date for Eid-ul-Adha 2026 will be announced after the moon is sighted by the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee across the country. Meanwhile, government offices, educational institutions, and most private businesses are likely to remain closed during these holidays.
