KARACHI: The Municipal Workers Trade Union Alliance has declared its initial demonstration for the year, with the city employees pressing for the settlement of unfinished dues for the retired, the raising of pensions, and the putting into effect of the announced increments in salaries for the active workers, among other things.
The protest is set for January 20 at the Karachi Municipal Corporation’s main office on MA Jinnah Road. Zulfiqar Shah, the president of the Alliance, replied to the questions posed by reporters by saying that the protest will reveal the failure of the Sindh government and Karachi Municipal Corporation to keep their word with regard to employee pay and pensions.
He also said that the Alliance has already given proper notifications to both the provincial government and KMC regarding the protest. Municipal workers all over Sindh are getting ready to take part in the protest, which Shah has called the first major labor action of 2026.
The Alliance has proclaimed that the protest will be non-violent but determined, with the workers demanding the much-delayed increases in salaries and revisions of pensions.
