MURREE: To deal with the expected influx of tourists in Murree during Eid holidays, traffic police have developed a full–scale plan to ensure free–flowing traffic.
More than 200 extra officers will be on duty to deal with crowds and assist visitors. A control room has been established at Sunny Bank to provide real-time information and assistance, and tourists may contact the control room for inquiries at 0519269200.
According to Murree Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Mughees Ahmed Hashmi, millions of visitors visit Murree during Eid, which is why authorities are improving traffic management based on instructions from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and senior police officers.
Traffic officers will be available at the points of entry to help promote traffic flow, and to inform visitors, they will use banners, pamphlets, and barriers.
All of the main access routes will remain open, such as the Expressway and GT Road. However, to try to reduce vehicular congestion, five roads (Viewforth Road, Bank Road, Hall Road, Kuldana Road, and Ridge Bell Road) have now been converted into one-way streets, and Mall Road will be closed to all vehicles.
To deal with parking, no–parking zones will be created in GPO Chowk and surrounding areas, but water tankers and food supply trucks, and cars will be allowed entry for deliveries.
Water tankers and food supply vehicles will be allowed entry from 1 am to 7 am. Tourists are advised to check traffic updates on @ctpmurree before traveling and ensure their vehicle.
