ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly (NA) on Friday removed Opposition Leader Omar Ayub and other parliamentary leaders from their posts following the disqualification over May 9 convictions.
The notification issued by the National Assembly Secretariat declared the post of Opposition Leader vacant following the removal of PTI leader Omay Ayub.
In addition to that, Zartaj Gul was stripped of her role as parliamentary leader, and Ahmad Chattha was removed as deputy parliamentary leader.
As per details, the speaker informed the House regarding the members’ disqualification and initiated consultations with the opposition for the appointment of a new opposition leader.
Moreover, Ayub was also delisted from NA’s Public Accounts Committee and the Finance Committee.
The memberships of 15 standing committees were also withdrawn from seven PTI lawmakers.
Sahibzada Hamid Raza’s chairmanship of the Standing Committee on Human Rights has been terminated, Zartaj Gul lost her membership of the Standing Committee on Human Rights, while the chairmanship of the Standing Committee on Railways has been withdrawn from Rai Hassan Nawaz.
It should be noted that the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) had sentenced 50 PTI leaders, including several MPs, Omar Ayub, and Shibli Faraz, after which the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had declared them disqualified.
