LAHORE: A constitutional petition was filed in the Lahore High Court against the rising prices of petroleum products, challenging the government’s continuous increase in prices.
The petition was filed by the Judicial Activism Panel. The petitioners say that the repeated increase in the prices of petrol and diesel is creating severe difficulties for the people. This has accelerated inflation and is affecting the lives of the common citizen.
The petition has taken the position that the prices of petroleum products in other countries of the region are more stable than in Pakistan. While the prices are being increased repeatedly here, which is against the public interest.
According to the petitioner, this increase is a violation of various articles of the Constitution. These include Articles 9, 14, 18, 23 and 24, which are related to the fundamental rights of citizens. The unnecessary increase in prices is affecting these rights.
The petition has requested the court to declare the recent increase in the prices of petroleum products unconstitutional. It has also been said that a clear, transparent and legal mechanism should be created for determining prices so that the public can get relief in the future.
