LAHORE: The increase in recent petrol prices was challenged in the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday.
A petitioner named Munir Ahmed in his plea challenged the hike in petroleum products and requested LHC to reverse the petrol price hike.
The citizen in his petition stated that petroleum product prices had dropped internationally, while the federal government had raised them unconstitutionally in Pakistan. The petitioner took the position that the government’s decision to raise the price of petroleum goods by Rs. 9.66 will worsen inflation.

The petitioner further added that the court needs to issue an order reversing the rise in petroleum product prices since it violates Articles 9, 14, 37, and 38 of the Constitution of Pakistan.
On March 31, the federal government hiked the price of petrol by Rs9.66 per litre for the upcoming two weeks. According to the finance ministry notification, the new petrol price will be Rs289.41 a litre from April 1 to 15. High-speed diesel (HSD) will be available for Rs282.24 per liter with a reduction of Rs3.32.
