PM Shehbaz announces free e-bike scheme for students; Details inside

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a plan to distribute e-motorbikes to exceptional students from government schools, following a model similar to the laptop scheme.

Chairing a meeting in Islamabad about the promotion of electric vehicles in the country, he directed to finalize the e-vehicles policy by November after consultations with all the federating units and stakeholders.

Shehbaz Sharif also directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to prepare a comprehensive plan for electric-powered public transport in Islamabad.

Addressing the meeting, the premier said the government is taking priority steps to promote electric vehicles in the country, noting these vehicles will not only save valuable foreign exchange in terms of import of petrol and diesel but will also be environment friendly.

The prime minister also directed all federal government ministries and departments to purchase electric motorbikes to conserve national resources.

Addressing the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that e-motorbikes will be distributed among the students of government schools with outstanding academic records.

PM Shehbaz Sharif has directed concerned authorities to start working on the initiative. However, the premier did not share any details regarding the launch of the scheme.
