CM Maryam Nawaz set to expand E-bike quota for students

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced a boost in the quota for e-bikes in response to high student demand, aiming to enhance student mobility.

As part of a broader initiative to offer affordable transportation options, the program has seen substantial interest. Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan shared that e-bikes are available to students through easy installment plans, ensuring broad accessibility.

So far, 190,000 students have registered for the first phase, which includes 20,000 bikes, 1,000 of which are electric.

The program’s success is highlighted by an additional 50,000 applications from students seeking e-bikes.

In response, CM Nawaz has directed an expedited distribution process, with daily progress reports required from relevant departments.

Marriyum Aurangzeb noted that 10,000 of the applications are from female students. Despite the higher cost of e-bikes, the Punjab government will cover the extra expenses to make them more affordable for students, according to the transport minister.
