PM Shehbaz meets Chaudhary Nisar’s residence, urges return to PML-N

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif visited the house of disgruntled PML-N leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Sunday.

According to a private news channel, during the visit, the prime minister invited Chaudhry Nisar to rejoin the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN).

The last meeting between the two was on September 7, 2024, when Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif condoled the death of Nisar’s sister, accompanied by Information Minister Attaullah Tarar. In this recent meeting, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif inquired about Chaudhry Nisar’s well-being and discussed the possibility of his return to the party.

Chaudhry Nisar expressed gratitude for the prime minister’s visit but said that he would consider rejoining the PML-N only after he recovers and consults with his colleagues.

Chaudhry Nisar has been a key figure in the PML-N for over 34 years but left the party in 2018, stating that his decision was based on his “conscience” and commitment to “politics of honor, not power.” He contested the 2018 election as an independent candidate from Rawalpindi, criticizing the party’s ticket distribution.

Despite PTI’s efforts to recruit him, Nisar has maintained his independent stance, citing his personal ties with PTI founder Imran Khan. Notably, after being elected as an MPA from a Rawalpindi constituency in 2018, Nisar took oath as a provincial legislator in May 2021.

Although he was elected as an independent candidate from PP-10 Punjab Assembly constituency in the 2018 general elections, he initially refused to take the oath in protest against alleged rigging which he claimed led to his defeat in NA-59, Rawalpindi-III National Assembly constituency. Ultimately, he decided to take the oath after about three years to avoid disqualification.
