Polling continues for vacant Senate seat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

PESHAWAR: Polling is underway for the by-election on the Senate seat vacated by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shibli Faraz in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The polling is being held in the Jirga Hall of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, where Member of Provincial Assembly Ehsanullah Khan cast the first vote.

Provincial Election Commissioner Saeed Gul has been appointed as the Returning Officer (RO) for the by-election.

PML-N’s Taj Muhammad Afridi and PTI’s Khurram Zeeshan are in the fray for the by-election.

The total number of members in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly is 145, while 73 votes are required to win the vacant Senate seat.

It is worth noting that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has 92 government members and 53 opposition members.

Yesterday, the Supreme Court rejected the petition to stop the Senate election and ordered the Peshawar High Court to decide on the pending petition of Shibli Faraz.
